Vicar's News - 1 May 2022

Duccio di Buoninsegna - Appearance on Lake Tiberias (panel 3), 1308-11

The cost of living having risen so much in the last year, those fish would be an inviting meal to those who still struggle to put food on the table 2,000 after this biblical event. Jesus is about abundance, he continually offers us more, even when we reject his teachings.

Welcome

We welcome Harper and Ava into the Church of God through the sacrament of Holy Baptism on Saturday.

Vale

We will farewell Warwick Stannus and Lynne De Garis (artist Lynne Boyd) at funerals this coming week.

May they rest in peace and rise in glory.

Wednesday service

Our mid -week service on Wednesdays (1.30am) has returned to the Lady Chapel following repairs to the sanctuary ceiling. It was Bill Dove's birthday and we retired to the Schoolhouse Cafe, as usual, but this week with cake!

Healing Service

The apostles ... anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them. Mark 6.13

A service of thanksgiving and prayers for healing takes place on the first Wednesday of each month at 10.30am in our Lady Chapel, and reflects our belief that God’s purpose for us all is a life of wholeness, as expressed in the life and teaching of Jesus. We celebrate two sacraments - Holy Eucharist and Holy Unction (anointing with oil).

We each stand in need of healing, but in this ministry we also recognise the social dimension – the earth, divided communities and nations - as well as the healing of uneasy bodies, minds and spirits. Our prayers are complimentary to the work of medicine, which is also a channel of God’s loving and transforming purpose. Each person, place and situation that we name in this service is already known to God. It is not a problem to be solved, but rather a focus of God’s love and acceptance. We trust that God will answer out prayers but we do not know when and how healing will happen.

In James 5:14-15 we read, "Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven."

Thursday service

Our Thursday service (10.30am in Chinese in the Lady Chapel) is growing and they, too, have refreshments in the Schoolhouse Cafe following the service.
