The Dragon Boat festival on Thursday morning.

A busy week at St Andrew's, celebrating the Dragon Boat festival with our Chinese friends. Much effort went into the performances on Thursday morning - more on this later.

St Barnabas

This weekend we celebrate St Barnabas. He was a Greek Cypriot Jew who joined the church in Jerusalem soon after Christ's crucifixion. He was one of the Cypriots who founded the church in Antioch, where he preached. After he called St Paul from Tarsus as his assistant, and they undertook joint missionary activities, and returned to Jerusalem in 48. Shortly afterward, a serious conflict separated them, and Barnabas sailed to Cyprus. There is no record of his subsequent life or death.

This weekend there is a canor service at 10am as the choir are on a long weekend. There will be no accompaniment on Sat@6.

On Sunday evening, there is Choral Evensong in the Lady Chapel.

Due to the King's Birthday holiday, there will be no Lectio Divina on Monday morning.

Vale

This week we farewelled Frank Sims at a moving ceremony at St Andrew's, led by Mthr Xeverie. Frank's daughter, Elizabeth, gave a superb eulogy to Frank in which she synthesised his core traits with St Paul's words from 1 Corinthians 13 - faith, hope and love.

Dragon Boat Festival

Quite the spectacle in church on Thursday when members of the Chinese community celebrated the traditional Dragon Boat festival.

Whilst the boats were easily accommodated, the vibrant and enthusiastic contributions from many performers and guests lasted throughout the morning and even included a baptism. Xeverie gave an address comparing the wisdom of the poet Qi Yuan with that of King Solomon.

Synod Representative

Following Philippa's move to Canberra, we need to elect a replacement Synod representative and I am seeking a volunteer so that we are fully represented at Sunod in October. Please let me know if you are interested.

Rosters

The next Weekend Services Roster will commence on Saturday 6 July through to Sunday 27 October. Please let Roster Coordinators know unavailability and any other relevant information by Monday 10 June.
