Pentecost 12

In this weekend's Gospel, Jesus teaches that true honour comes from God, not from seeking a higher social status for oneself. Jesus uses a parable about choosing the lowest seat at a banquet to illustrate that humility is rewarded, while pride leads to shame.

Music at Brighton Grammar on display

ree

For ten days in August the BGS Music School undertakes three whole school journey concerts. Starting last Thursday with the Bands Showcase, each of the concerts illustrate the musical journey of BGS music students from the Junior School to the Secondary School, from beginner musicians to maestros.

Brighton Grammar was recently named The Age’s 2025 Schools that Excel winner for southern Melbourne, with significant improvements in study scores and ATAR achievements, reflecting the success of its well-rounded approach to education. The School has seen a lift in academic performance since introducing dance as a co-curriculum program for students three years ago. The program, led by professional choreographer Christopher Horsey, includes ballet, hip-hop, and tap, and has helped students manage stress, improve focus, and build physical strength. What's more, students have found dance to be a valuable complement to their studies. Headmaster Ross Featherston emphasises the importance of passion-driven activities outside academics, which he believes contribute to the school’s rising VCE results.

Flowers in the Pioneer Chapel

ree

The flowers in the Pioneer Chapel, around the font and on the rear shelf are from Friday's funeral for the late Richard Collins AM of Adelaide, an Old Boy of BGS who requested his funeral be in the Pioneer Chapel. We extend our condolences to his wife, Joanna and their families and thank them for leaving the flowers for us to enjoy at our Sunday's services. A bit of a surprise for the family and friends of the late John Taylor, who funeral followed in the afternoon and who had the reception in the Pioneer Chapel amongst the blooms.

May Richard and John both rest in peace and rise in glory.
