Good Shepherd Sunday

This weekend our Gospel reading from St John speaks of Jesus as 'the good shepherd' - a shepherd who is willing to lay down his life for his sheep - for those who put their faith in him. Jesus' example is for us to be a servant-leader more concerned for the welfare of our people than ourselves.

The window in the Pioneer Chapel depicting the good shepherd is in memory of Maud Cameron MBE, headmistress of Firbank Girls Grammar (1911-54), who was the archtypal headmistress embodying all that 'a good shepherd' entails.

Vale Dwight King

With condolences to Alice and her family, we record the unexpected death in the USA of Dwight King, for many years a Churchwarden of this Parish, a tireless worker and contributor not only to St Andrew's, but also to wider Diocese through the Anglican Schools Commission in the establishment of Hume Grammar School at Craigieburn.

Dwight’s Melbourne son, Aaron and wife Sam, have arranged a local wake in his memory from 1pm to 5 pm at The Deck at 212 Bay Street on Saturday 17 May.

If you plan to attend, please call Robert Timms on 0414 097 847, by 15 May, so the number attending can be passed on to Dwight's son for catering purposes.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

Hope in an uncertain world
Hope in an uncertain world

The Rev'd Christine Croft, former curate here and now chaplain at Firbank, had organised a Hope25 event for Anglican Schools which was to be held at St Andrew's next week. Unfortunately it has been cancelled - not sure how to read hope into that action. However in anticipation Christine had received entries in a competition among the schools for an items that expressed the hope embodied in our faith in Christ.

The winning entry was a song written by students at All Saints' Anglican Grammar in Shepparton, embodied in a video which they filmed and performed in. We will be seeing the video on Sunday in the 10am service. If you are unable to come on Sunday, you can watch the video here. It is well worth it.

Also in the winner's circle, though not strictly speaking an Hope 25 event, the 'Ten Tonners' from Brighton Grammar, including several of our choristers, were placed third at this year's 'Generations in Jazz' an annual festival for schools held at Mt Gambier. You can see their performance here.

During the week the Conclave of cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church elected a new Pope - Leo XIV. The Australian bishops are slow off the mark, but the Archbishop of York, on behalf of the empty office of the Archbishop of `canterbury released the statement below.

Clergy Conference

Lunch Dinner

On Sunday till Tuesday, Xeverie and I attended the clergy conference for the Anglican ministers in the Jumbunna Episcopate at Foothills Conference Centre Mooroolbark. The topic for the speakers was 'The Nicene/Constantinople Creed'. Clearly it was all too much for Xev and she is now on holidays in Singapore visiting her mother!

Consequently the will be no Lectio Divina on Monday nor the following Monday morning. Chinese Morning Prayer will continue on Thursdays.

Kids' Church

Last Sunday, our Kids' Church class centred on 'Jesus loves the little children', and we had additional students from the baptism families who were here for 2 baptisms - Evelyn and Mackenzie (great-grandchildren of Pamela Bowles, who joined us for the 10am service, Kids' Church and the baptisms. These 2 young ladies were welcomed into the Church of God through the sacrament of Holy Baptism at the end of Kids' Church.

Concert at St Andrew's

Rosters

The new roster period will be from Saturday 5 July through to Sunday 26 October.

Please advise coordinators of availability.
