The Feast of Christ's Ascension

The key to appreciating Ascension Day is knowing that, when Jesus ascends, he

accomplishes both his glory and our good. His glory is his seating at the right hand of God from where his intercessions (his prayers for the saints and us) are directly to the Father. In other words, Jesus is now invested with the highest possible authority, and he uses his authority to pray for you and me.

I am back from holidays and looking forward to seeing you over the weekend.

Next Sunday is the Feast of Pentecost, and incense will be used at 10am.

Housekeeping

The new glass doors have been installed at the entrance to the Parish Hall, and the unisex toilet in this entrance foyer is to be upgraded. Similarly new doors from the narthex into the Eastern Courtyard are being installed this week, necessitated by the prevailing fire safety requirements.

A new garbage bin facility is to be created on St Andrew's Street between the Op Shop and the café so that all the bins can be relocated away from our main driveway, which is being damaged by the garbage trucks. This relocation will enable works to be done behind the Op Shop and café to level this area and redirect the surface water to our planned storage tank as part of 'The Greening Project'. This will prevent flooding into the Café in heavy rain. This area will then be repaved and become our disabled parking spaces with level acess to the café and the Church.

The new gates across the driveway near 230A New Street are being redesigned to enable automatic locking and unlocking during nominated hours. Many thanks again to all those who contributed to fund this work, partly through the Silent Auction.

Tree lopping - a tree in the Eastern Courtyard has died due to the piling of mulch at its base. The tree will be removed and the excessive mulch relocated to the graveyard. Permission is also being sought to remove a tree on New St which is interfereing with the stability of the large Moreton Bay fig tree on the corner of the site.

Diocesan changes

The Archbishop has announced that the Episcopate will be extended to 4 area bishops in September (rather than the current 3), to even up the number of Parishes within each bishop's area. Bishop Paul currently has 72 parishes in his area. These changes will reduce that number to around 55 for each Bishop. There will be consequent changes to the division of Parishes into Deaneries within these new 4 episcopal areas, apparently based on local government areas. The names of the new Episcopates and the composition of the deaneries are yet to be finalised. Both Bishops Kate and Genieve are to retire, and Bishop Brad is now the Archbishop of Adelaide, and so it is likely that three new bishops to be consecrated in September. Watch this space.
