Pentecost 2

In this Sunday's gospel we have two closely linked stories that highlight Jesus upending social and religious boundaries through radical inclusion, mercy, and supernatural healing. Read together, these verses present a Christ who moves intentionally toward the marginalized, the ritually "unclean", and the broken. Jesus calls Matthew, a tax collector, to follow him and then dines with other tax collectors and 'sinners', must to the dislike of the Pharisees. He then heals the bleeding woman and raises Jairus's daughter.

Out and about

The Churchwardens have a program of repairs underway around the site:

  • many of the possible trip hazards around the church have been removed from the drive and pathways;

  • a new garbage bay will shortly be constructed between the café and the Op Shop on St Andrew's Street;

  • there are new entry doors to the narthex from the Vicar's cloister around the Eastern Courtyard, which can be unlocked from outside, finally giving us access to the front of the church after 65 years.
