Pentecost - Whitsunday
The term "Pentecost" is derived from the Greek word pentekoste, meaning "fiftieth". It originally referred to an ancient Jewish agricultural festival known as Shavuot (the Feast of Weeks), which was celebrated 50 days after Passover. In the Jewish tradition, it celebrates the giving of the Torah (the Law) on Mount Sinai and the early wheat harvest.
In the book, the Acts of the Apostles, we learn that on this day a sound like a mighty wind filled the room, "tongues of fire" rested upon each of the disciples' heads, and they were enabled to speak in different languages, allowing them to communicate with the diverse crowds gathered in Jerusalem.
