The Transfiguration of our Lord
The transfiguration is recorded in each of the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew 17, Mark 9, Luke 9). Jesus goes up a mountain to pray. His face shines like the sun and his clothes become dazzling white. Moses (representing the Law) and Elijah (representing the Prophets) appear and talk with Jesus. A bright cloud covers them, and the voice of God declares, "This is my beloved Son; listen to him!" It offered the disciples a glimpse of Christ's divine glory to strengthen their faith ahead of his upcoming suffering and crucifixion.
