Pentecost 4
In this morning's Epistle we hear of Jesus appearing to the disciples on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. It describes Jesus' interaction with Peter after the resurrection, focusing on Peter's restoration and future. Jesus asks Peter three times if he loves him, each time receiving an affirmative response, and instructs him to "feed my sheep". Remember that Peter had earlier denied Christ three times. Jesus then foretells Peter's martyrdom, indicating he will die a painful death, and concludes by telling Peter to "Follow me". In response to Peter's curiosity about the fate of the Beloved Disciple, Jesus emphasises Peter's own need to follow him, regardless of what others may do.
