St James the Great

The Apostle James was one of Jesus' closest confidents. With his brother, John, they were sons of Zebedee, known as sons of thunder, and we called by Jesus from their work as fishermen on the Sea of Galilee. He was the first Apostle to be martyred, in 44AD. He is the patron saint of Spain, where his bones are said to lie in the shrine at Santiago de Compostela, one of the world's lonf-standing pilgrimage routes.

We welcome our choir, Mario and Calvin back from holidays on Sunday. All our usual services and activities return from the holiday break this week.

We note with sorrow the death of Margaret Fitch, former parishioner and resident at Mayflower. Her funeral will be conducted by the Rev Sharne Rolfe at Holy Trinity Hampton on Monday at 10am.

May she rest in peace, and rise in glory.

Mission Action Plan 2026-2029

Parish Council are working on a new Mission Action Plan (MAP) for the Parish from 2026 to 2029 and part of that will be a closer relationship between the Parish and St Mary's Pre School in Dendy Street. The terms of a new lease has been agreed and St Mary's have added a page to their website acknowledging our relationship which has extended over many years.

New Bishops

A service for the consecration of three new assistant Bishops for the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne, in addition to Bishops Paul, Genieve and Kate, will be held in St Paul's Cathedral on 19 September, for Archdeacon Megan Curlis-Gibson and Canons Ben Wong and Nigel Pope. Details to follow. Bishop Genieve will be retiring in the new year.
