Australia Day weekend
On Monday we celebrate our country and our own citizenship. January 26 was chosen as Australia Day for a specific reason: it marks the day we gained independence from British rule. On January 26, 1949, Australia became a sovereign nation, and everyone living here, including Aboriginal peoples, was recognised as Australian citizens under the Nationality and Citizenship Act 1948.
On Sunday at 9.30am we have a special service for Australia Day - remembering the past, celebrating the present and looking positively to the future. Join us for refreshments afterwards - Tim Tams, lamingtons, ANZAC biscuits, and sandwiches.
