Saint Luke the Evangeliste El Greco (1541–1614)

St Luke

St Luke was a significant early Christian figure and one of the four traditional authors of the Gospels. He is credited with writing the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. The Gospel of Luke is notable for its emphasis on the humanity of Jesus and its detailed accounts of Mary, the mother of Jesus. He was a physician who later converted to Christianity and became a companion and disciple of St Paul. His evangelist symbol is the winged ox, which represents the sacrificial aspect of Jesus' ministry and the proclamation of the Gospel throughout the world. You can see this depicted on the pulpit in the church.

The doors to the Eastern Courtyard will be open again tomorrow and the screen from the Garden of Remembrance removed now that 'muck-up' day is over.

Nina Liu's work was chosen to be displayed at the gates of Firbank as an advertisement for their up-coming Visual Arts exhibition.

Nina wrote:

"My artwork is a representation of my lived experiences as a Chinese-born person studying in Australia. I was inspired by how living in two different cultures has shaped my identity, memories and spirituality. These experiences are not solely mine alone, and many students studying abroad face the same challenges as I do. I wanted my work to speak to them and their lives. My artwork is an abstract and figurative representation of the fragmentation of memory and the passage of time. The work invites viewers to reflect on how past and present experiences shape our lives, choices and feelings".

Congratulations.

Anglican Communion

There have been recent media reports about the continuing schism in the worldwide Anglican Communion. The head of GAFCON, a movement within Anglicanism largely opposed to the more liberal thinking of Western culture regarding the role of women and gays in the church, has unilaterally split off the GAFCON provinces from communion with the rest of us, creating the Global Anglican Communion (GAC). This appears to be precipitated by the fact that the next Archbishop of Canterbury is going to be a woman. He claims that the GAC is the 'true' Anglican Communion worldwide. As each province of the Anglican Communion is independent of one another, tit remains to be seen whether those currently part of GAFCON will eventually join GAC remains, as some of them have women bishops.

2025/2026 Giving envelopes

New boxes of envelopes are available for collection in Narthex . Thank you to those who support and work of the church through the offertory plate and with regular giving via envelopes in the plate or via direct debit through the Anglican Development Fund (ADF), our preferred giving method. If you would like to know more about how you can setup a regular program of giving via envelopes or the ADF please contact the Pledge Recorder (Peter Gray) via the Parish Office.

Please consider giving generously. As you will read in our 2025 Annual report, we need to increase our giving (via envelopes, ADF, and open plate) by $50,000 in the new financial year (which commenced on 1 October). Giving up one paid coffee per day and adding this to your weekly giving (an additional $35 per week) would mean an additional $1000 pa to assist with running the Parish.

Blessing of the Pets

Last Sunday we blessed our pets, predominantly dogs but we were joined by a snake named 'Douglas'. Much fun was had and the pets enjoyed some treats after the service.

Australian Boys Choir

The Australian Boys Choir were in concert here last Sunday afternoon and it was a fantastic performance.

You can listen to some of the singing below:
