Gaudete Sunday
Gaudete Sunday is the joyful Third Sunday of Advent, named from the Latin word for "rejoice," signaling a break in the penitential season to celebrate the imminent arrival of Christ. Traditions include lighting the pink candle on the Advent wreath (instead of purple) and priests wearing rose vestments, symbolizing hope and the nearness of Christmas. It serves as a midpoint reminder to find deep joy and anticipation for Jesus' coming, contrasting with the somber preparation of early Advent.
