Vincenzo Catena, Christ and the Samaritan Woman, c. 1520–1530
Jesus breaks social, racial, and gender barriers by conversing with a Samaritan woman at Jacob's Well. He reveals himself as the Messiah, offers her "living water" (eternal life), and exposes her past, leading her to become an evangelist who brings her town to believe in him as Saviour. This interaction highlights Jesus' mission to all people, regardless of social standing or background. It is a defining moment where he openly declares his identity, making the woman, considered an outcast, an early witness to his ministry.

Fun times are back

Synod Representatives

With the election of our new Archbishop, a new three-year 55th session of our Diocesan Synod will commence in October 2026. The Archbishop has issued a mandate (above) that new Synod Representatives be elected for each parish in Melbourne.
Those on our Parish Electoral Roll, are invited to nominate as a Synod Representative and a form for this purpose can be downloaded here.
Synod Representatives meet in October to vote on Diocesan Business and to elect members to various committees of the Diocese and Anglican Church of Australia for the three-year session. The meetings are over three evenings and one day (a mixture of on-line and attendance at the Cathedral). There is a booklet explaining Synod available in the narthex, and a copy can be downloaded here.
In compliance with the Synod Act 1972:
Nominations, using this form, must be received at the Parish Office (either by delivery to the letterbox or emailed to vicar@standrewsbrighton.org.au) by 7am on Sunday 22 March 2026. Names of those nominated will then be displayed on a notice in the Narthex and in the subsequent Vicar's News email.
If there are more nominations than positions available, a voting form will be sent to you and an election will be nominally held on Palm Sunday 29 March following the 10am service:
either by you having returned the completed voting form to the Parish office (by email or delivery) or
by placing the completed form in the Voting Box which will be in the narthex on that day. The results will be published in the next Vicar's News and on the noticeboard at Easter.
You are welcome to ask me any queries you may have about the role of Synod Representatives or this election process.
International Parents
The recent International Parents Social Group (IPSG) at Brighton Grammar School gathered in the Eastern Courtyard on Wednesday morning. It was very well attended, with both long‑standing members and newcomers joining in. IPSG and St Andrew’s maintain a strong partnership in supporting and enriching our multicultural community, and this event reflected that shared commitment. Attendees were also treated to a short preview of the Tennis Club facilities upstairs, which generated much interest.
