St Andrew's Church Brighton

Tennis ClubTennis Club

The Tennis Club was founded in 1913 and the three courts are located in St Andrew's Street, flanked by St Andrew's Church buildings and neighbouring Brighton Grammar School.

In 2005 the courts were re-surfaced with policlay, a synthetic matting topped with ceramic sand. Policlay plays like en-tous-cas, however, it is maintenance efficient and requires no watering. All three courts have lights.

Coaching programmes cater to most age groups and enquiries can be directed to coach Gerard Douglas, telephone 0425 755 005.

Night tennis is popular and intra-club competitions are played on Monday and Wednesday evenings. There are Mixed Doubles Senior teams in the Bayside/Churches competition, and a range of Junior teams in the Moorabbin and District Association.

The courts are not available for social tennis on holy days such as Good Friday, Christmas Day or Sunday mornings during church services. A monthly schedule for each court is available from the coach or the clubroom.

Club membership numbers approximately 150, and varies from associate (weekdays only), single, junior to family. As at February 2008, annual fees are from $60 to $180 per year; and there is a joining fee of $20. Further details and application forms are available in the clubroom, and through club coach Gerard Douglas (gerarddouglas@optusnet.com.au) or Honorary Treasurer Kate Rogers: PO Box 495 Brighton 3186.
